Story:

Navarra is located in northern Spain and is one of the most important wine-producing zones in the entire Iberian Peninsula. It lies immediately north of Rioja and due east of the Basque Country. Zorzal has been farming organically since 1998 – they tend the vines without the use of herbicides or pesticides, working the soils and treating them with organic compost.

Tasting:

This Graciano offers up aromas of stewed blackberry, black cherry, and a touch of cedar. In the mouth it’s full of ripe purple and black fruits – plum, mulberry, black raspberry and a swath of warm spice. Medium-bodied with a nice bright finish. There is a wonderful mix of rich depth and freshness – pair it with our Wild Mushroom and Barley Salad which has earthy richness from the mushrooms and freshness from lemon juice and fresh herbs. It makes a nice stand alone Vegetarian entree or a luscious side dish.

More:

Graciano is often used in the neighboring Rioja region in a supporting role in red blends. Its delicate balance of red and black-fruit flavors and palate-reviving acidity is difficult to strike, meaning that it is seldom seen as a single varietal, and making this superbly priced example all the more impressive. The fruit, sourced from excellent 35-year-old vines, spends just four months in oak so as not to mask the fruit, but add a vibrant and exotic touch to its classic Spanish flavor.
