Alder Ridge Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
Alder Ridge Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 | Bottle Price: $19.99 | Case Price: $215.89
The Alder Ridge is a perfect representation of how good Washington State Cabs can be. It hails from the revered Horse Heaven Hills AVA. This area is much desired because of it’s close proximity to the Columbia River, where the vineyards are exposed to strong winds that bring cooling influences to the hot, dry land. These winds are vital to viticulture here as they stress the vines, forcing them to produce high-quality berries with concentrated flavor.
At first sniff you’ll notice a big, bold wine with robust aromatics of blackberry, currant, chocolate and smoke. The palate is intense, without being overbearing. It delivers silky tannins and round flavors of dark cherry, black currant, vanilla, mocha, and a hint of truffle. When pairing you may as well go all-in with red meat, try our recipe for Cajun Spiced Bison Steaks.
This wine is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, though there are small amounts of Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot in the mix – a rich, Bordeaux-style. The grapes are hand sorted to ensure quality and destemmed and carefully pressed to provide balance of tannin and fruit. Winemaker Ron Bunnell has an impressive resume having worked at Chateau St. Michelle and Beringer, among others. He delivers a full-bodied Cabernet that maintains a beautiful balance of structure and drinkability.
