Story:

The Marche region is one of Italy’s hidden gems. Located on the Adriatic coast, in between Emilia-Romagna and Abruzzo, rolling hills and limestone bluffs characterize this coastal region. Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi is one of the most famous and historically noteworthy offerings in the region.

Tasting:

This wine is clean and crisp with aromatics of citrus and stone. Bright, refreshing acidity in the mouth with flavors of lemon zest and a hint of brine. It smells like summer by the sea. Vinified in stainless steel to preserve freshness, the wine is at once fresh and rounded, and typical of the grape. There is absolutely no pretension. Pure Verdicchio, vinified and aged with no makeup, with a bit of prickly CO2 left in the bottle to keep it sprightly. It’s classically partnered with a local seafood stew, try it with our recipe for Summer Bouillabaisse.

More:

Made from the ancient Verdicchio grape variety, legend has it that when the troops of the king of the Visigoths, Alarich (370-410), marched on Rome, they were provided with barrels of Verdicchio to maintain their strength. So drink up! It’s good for you! Verdicchio means ‘little green one’, a name which holds true as the wine tends to have pronounced green hues in the glass.
