Story:

Strange as it may seem, bright, green Sauvignon Blanc has much in common with dark-skinned Cabernet Sauvignon, and not just in the name.. The ‘green’ flavors detectable in wines of both types are due to the methoxypyrazine flavor compounds in both varieties. The two varieties are, in fact, genetically related; Sauvignon became the parent to Cabernet Sauvignon after a natural crossing with Cabernet Franc in an 18th-Century Bordeaux vineyard.

Tasting:

The Laurent Reserva is clean and bright with lemon, sage, and mineral aromatics. It’s light and lively on the palate with stony notes and flavors of lemon and green papaya. It has a medium-long finish with plenty of refreshing acidity. Pair this with our recipe for Grilled Shrimp ‘Boil’. The sauvignon blanc is clean and fresh – a perfect foil for the beachy flavors of a shrimp boil. A great pairing for a summer cook-out.

More:

After cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon blanc is the second-most-planted wine grape in Chile, at about 12 percent of all vines. Laurent is a Chilean wine estate by organic/biodynamic Bordeaux winemaker Gerard Laurent of Chateau L’Escart. Their motto is that excellence of a fine wine depends mainly on the quality of the grapes. Obvious perhaps, but something that is nevertheless worth remembering.
