Story:

Félix Meyer is a rising star in Alsace. He is the third generation in his family to be making wine since his grandfather founded the domaine in the late 19th century. It’s all about the details at Meyer-Fonné, with an emphasis on tradition and respect for terroir. The winery is situated on land known for its distinctive granite soils and all of Meyer’s bottlings are characterized by stunning aromatics and a signature backbone of minerality and nerve.

Tasting:

The Gentil d’Alsace has an enchanting nose of jasmine, wet stones, and bees wax. It’s bright and delicately floral in the mouth with bright acidity and a crisp, vibrant finish – it’s an intense, bone-dry white. This wine is quite versatile and would be lovely with seared scallops or shrimp. We took a non-seafood approach. Pair this with our recipe for Melon and Prosciutto salad with feta and mint – it’s a stunning pairing.

More:

Alsace is a far northeastern region in France that has strong Germanic influences. From the grapes grown here (this blend is 50% Riesling, 25% Muscat, 25% Pinot Blanc) to the cuisine; the classic dish of Choucroute Garnie is sauerkraut and potatoes with sausages and pork belly and spicy mustard. Even the architecture has German influence, the town of Katzenthal where Meyer-Fonné is located consists of houses constructed with walls in timber framing that look like beautiful Cuckoo Clocks.
