Willow Crest Estate Cabernet Franc 2015

Willow Crest Estate Cabernet Franc 2015 | Bottle Price: $14.99 | Case Price: $161.89

The Yakima Valley, where you will find Willow Crest Estate Winery, was Washington’s first federally recognized AVA. It’s home to some of the state’s oldest vineyards. In fact, way back in 1869, a Frenchman from Alsace-Lorraine named Charles Schanno was the first to plant vines here. Today, at 11,000 acres, it’s home to the largest concentration of wineries in Washington State.

The Willow Crest vineyards are predominantly known for their white wines. One of the few exceptions is Cabernet Franc because it grows so well here. This bottling is 100% Cab Franc and is still light on its feet despite having 14.7% alcohol. Red fruits (strawberry and raspberry), pepper, wet earth, and licorice round out the palate while well-integrated tannins give way to a mellow, but persistent acidic structure. A truly delicious Cab Franc with just the right amount of juiciness, depth and savory herbal and cedar notes. Try pairing this wine with Turkey Stuffed Peppers. The phenolic notes of the bell pepper, acidity from tomato sauce, and pepper and herbs flavors mimic those in the wine.

Because Willow Crest Estate sits at a higher elevation than most of the Yakima Valley, cooler temperatures predominate. This allows the grapes to ripen longer as they can survive the hotter months. The winemakers pick at the end of October, instead of a month earlier, allowing the grapes to develop generous acidity and balance.
