2009 Rhone Wine Super Six-Pack

Posted by Jason on Wed January 11, 2012

YES! The 2009 vintage of Gallety and Les Pallieres have arrived! There’s not a whole lot that I can say about these two producers that I haven’t said in the past. What’s left for me to say about the virtues of the massive 2009 vintage that I haven’t already said a dozen times? So let me boil this down for you. Buy them. They don’t fit into you normal wine buying budget? Pick up a night shift, eat at home on Saturday, skip your next haircut. Not into Rhone wines? You’ll get over it in a hurry when you crack a bottle of Les Pallieres. Pull the trigger on a couple of bottles of each of these wines. Better yet, make out like a bandit and buy this six-pack! You’ll save an additional 10% off our already very low price. And I promise, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

Côtes du Vivarais 2009, Domaine Gallety
Juicy, juicy, juicy! Hand-harvested, vinified in cement and bottled unfined and unfiltered after aging 15 months in neutral oak – this wine is on par with many du-Papes that’ll set you back two to three times as much coin. A 50/50 blend of Syrah and Grenache this wine has a beautiful nose of lavender, rosemary, fig and cracked pepper. It is full bodied and sleek, with a juicy fig, red cherry and raspberry mouth. Did I mention that it’s a juicy wine? Drink it now or set it down for a few years. Awesome. $25/bottle

Gigondas “Les Racines” 2009, Domaine Les Pallières

Wow – Animal-style intensity in bottling from Les Pallieres. Hand harvested grapes from the steep, rocky lieu-dit are crushed, fermented slowly and aged for almost 20 months in founders before being bottled unfiltered. From the domaine’s oldest vines (65+ years old!), this is a dense, intense wine packed with blackberry, raspberry, garrigue and tobacco aromatics. It screams of the Rhone – cool-climate Grenache & Syrah at juiciest. This beauty should drink exceptionally well for the next 8 to 10 year or more. That being said, you can’t be held accountable if you drink it now. $44/bottle

Gigondas “Terrasse du Diable” 2009, Domaine Les Pallières
Wow – this is a vibrant, intense bottling of mostly Grenache from very high altitude vineyards in Gigondas. The super-low yields at play result in a concentrated, focused wine. Loads of nervy bright red raspberry and bing cherry dominate the nose. Both are present on the mouth where they’re kept company by a beautiful, intense mineral superstructure and a juicy streak of acidity. Drink this over the next 5 or 6 years. $44/bottle
