Dacu by Alberto Orte – Spanish Tempranillo

So you may have had Tempranillo from Spain before, but this one is a little different.  From the second largest wine appellation in Spain, Ribera del Guadiana is unknown by many.  Most people have had Tempranillo from Rioja or Toro, but the grape changes and adapts to different geography.  Near the Portuguese border, the vineyard location is considered high elevation which causes cooler nights giving the grapes added acidity and balance.

Dacu is a medium to medium plus body wine with dark cherry and raspberry notes.  Starts in the mouth with pleasant raspberries, I get the fruit and oak on the mid pallet with a long finish of round tannins and some mouthwatering acidity.  The longish finish is interesting and refreshing.  This is a high quality Spanish wine for the price.  Not needing food, one could pair this wine with lasagna or a spinach and tomato risotto.

Enjoy the fruits of Spain with this new addition to the shop.
