Dauvergne Ranvier Cotes du Rhone Blanc

Posted by Abby on Wed September 07, 2011

September is a bridge month, where we give you a white wine and a red wine. Why? September in VT often means warm days and chilly nights, so we’ve given you wine for each occasion.

The Dauvergne Ranvier Blanc is a blend of 50% Grenache Blanc, 30% Viognier, and 20% Roussanne. These are typical grapes found in Rhone white blends along with Marsanne and Picpoul Blanc.

This wine has a beautifully aromatic nose of florals and tropical fruits. It’s medium-bodied with flavors of ripe pear, coconut, and banana hints. It’s rather beachy actually! A zing of acidity comes through mid-finish to keep the ripe fruit tasting fresh.

The Côtes du Rhône AOC is the second largest in France after Bordeaux and produces some excellent wines. The Rhone region is located in Southern France and has the benefit of a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers. The Côtes du Rhône appellation has a climate that is very enjoyable thanks to long periods of sunny days and a specific asset, the Mistral wind, a cold and dry wind that often blows after the rainfalls and keeping the grapes from over-ripening.

As soon as I tasted this wine I knew what I wanted to eat with it, the beachy sensation I got from sipping it made me crave grilled fish, Snapper or Opah would be perfection!

Wow…That was fun. Need more! Thanks Abby.
