Domaine la Hitaire – A Summer Quaffer

Posted by Abby on Wed June 29, 2011

We’ve selected wines this month that are designed to quench your thirst in the midst of a steamy Vermont July. Summer Quaffers! First we have the Domaine la Hitaire which is a blend of Ugni Blanc, Colombard, and Gros Manseng, which are classic Gascony varietals. Gascony is located in the southwest of France, east and south of Bordeaux. All of the vines used in this cuvée are 50+ years old.

The wine has a lovely bright nose of lemon zest and lime with a hint of peach. The palate is full of fresh orchard fruit with a zippy edge of citrus peel. All the grapes are picked in the early morning and the picking bins are lined with dry ice to keep the fruit cold and protect against oxidation. They are made completely in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness of the fruit.

This wine is perfect for sitting in the backyard on a sunny Saturday afternoon, playing Bocce with friends. Food is not required for enjoying this wine but it’s a winner with grilled baby veggies – with fresh thyme and garlic.

Am loving the Vin de pays from Domaine La Hitaire. Makes for a very interesting & complex white : )
