Let there be light- KAPOW! And there was light, and it was good… The time has come – t-shirts, sunglasses, a smoking grill and a bunch of people getting happy outside, under blue skies. This month’s wines are for the hedonists among us – they’re meant to be chugged in the backyard or on the deck with a few friends. Start with this lip
smacking Chardonnay from Bethel Heights. Juicy, spicy, stunning, vibrant – this wine will turn heads. This wine is made from sustainably farmed grapes – 70% of which are Dijon clones, 30% are Old Vine Wente clones. So what? The Dijon clones are the big cannons – launching powerful, rich pineapple and pear bombs and leaving behind a trail of banana smoke. The Wente clones are all about palette espionage – they add layers of subtlety, complexity and a juicy acidity that will have your mouth watering before you’ve figured out why. The fruit is whole-cluster pressed, the juice is barrel fermented and aged on the lees. The result is sheer awesomeness.
