The region of Alentejano or Alentijo, is located in the south central part of Portugal. The area is commonly known as the “bread basket” of Portugal, a region of vast open countryside with undulating plains and rich fertile soil. Apart from the vines, you can also find olive trees and cork oak, the primary source of cork for wine bottle stoppers. The name Alentijo literally translates to “Across the Tagus”, the river that separates the region from the rest of Portugal.
The wine is made up from a blend of indigenous grapes, Trincadeira, Alicante Boushet, and Aregonez. The wine is dark and plush. Aromas of red fruits and a hint of tobacco are warm and welcoming. The mouth is full of vanilla and black cherry with a velvety finish. It wraps you up in cozy comfort…like a Snuggie!
This red is perfectly suited for the colder snowy nights that eventually find their way into December. All you need with this wine is a warm fire and a plate of horseradish crusted beef brisket with carrots and you’ll be very merry.
