Plantagenet Hazard Hill Shiraz 2009

Posted by Tim on Thu February 16, 2012

This Western Australian shiraz comes from the first winery to be established in Western Australia’s Great Southern wine region.  Looking at a map, this would be the very south-west corner of the Country that protrudes down.  The winery has played a significant role in helping develop the five sub-regions of the Great Southern appellation.  The climate here is a cool, continental climate.

The syrah grape starts off by sending a big funkiness up the nose.   This turns into an almost marshmallow and cocoa scent.   The flavors of cherry and strawberry fill the mouth with some grip.  Decent fruit.  The nose is much bigger than the taste, with a semi-long finish of red fruit.

Try this wine on its own after work, or pop open a bottle and pair with a mild bean chili.
