Buy this wine now. Don’t read any further. Sigh. Fine. Bouvier’s Gevrey-Chambertin is, vintage after vintage, one of the triumphs of the appellation. Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest appellation in Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin is also one of the most famous wines in France.
Régis Bouvier is something of a genie, turning out lovely Burgundies at affordable prices. He is a master of all three colors in Burgundy–red, white and rosé, through reasonable yields and high quality terroirs, but his reds are his crowning achievement. He is a gifted and conscientious winemaker. His wines are exciting, vibrant, flavorful, and elegant.
This is 100% Pinot Noir coming from vines that on average are 45 years old, this wine is intense. The nose is exotic – turkish delight, lavender, plum and clove. The mouth is sleek at first, then meaty and beautifully perfumed. Every time I open a bottle I enjoy a new detail – apples, candied orange, roasted meat, bing cherry… Ok, now buy a bottle.
