We begin with the most unique Arneis you will ever taste. Arneis production, it has to be said, generally looks more like factory farming than the organic utopias we look for in our favorite wines. The majority of Arneis out there is chemically farmed and generally without much character. That is surely not true of in the vineyards and cellars of Angelo Negro. A pioneer of excellent, serious Arneis production, his US importer years ago requested that Angelo bottle some of his Arneis without any fining or filtration whatsoever, and with minimal SO2. Out of curiosity, he obliged, and we get this stunningly different expression of this well known style. This is the closest you’ll get to tasting the wine directly from the tank at the estate.
One look at the bottle and you will know what to expect. This unfiltered white is fresh, zippy and somewhat yeasty not unlike a farmhouse beer. It pairs beautifully with ripe Piedmontese cheeses like Robiola, but will also stand up to cheesy pasta dishes like carbonara and cacio e pepe. The perfect apéritif wine for a hot summer day with your natural wine loving friends, it is a truly unique experience to drink this wine in all its pure, unadulterated glory.
