Clos Marfisi VdF Les Nuits Rouge 2019 $26.99
Also in Patrimonio, Clos Marfisi has long been one of our favorite sources of serious yet natural Patrimonio rouge. And the reds from Patrimonio, usually made from the native Nielluciu variety, can be big, bracing, and tannic, not unlike great Sangiovese. And, we love them. But–sometimes you want something that drinks like Cru Beaujolais, that isn’t Cru Beaujolais. That’s why we’re ecstatic for the estate’s new glou-glou oriented bottling, Les Nuits Rouge. This is 100% carbonic-macerated Nielluciu, showing the grape and appellation’s softer side.
Though the Marfisi family usually uses a bit of sulphur at bottling for their more serious reds, ‘Les Nuits Rouge’ sees no added SO2 throughout winemaking, as it’s a wine meant to be drunk young. It is from organically farmed fruit, fermented exclusively with native yeasts. Now, we know it’s getting cold out there and chillable reds aren’t exactly in vogue this time of year, but the next time you have a burger on your plate, throw a bottle of this in the fridge for a half an hour or so, and you won’t be disappointed.
