The village of Rosswag is often forgotten in the conversation about German wines. 99% of grapes go directly to village coops. The other 1% goes to the wines of Olympia and Hannes Roterfaden. They use the old vines, steep slopes, and lack of preconceived notions of what Rosswag wines should taste like, to their advantage.
BMX Guru and winemaker, Jochen Beurer is producing phenomenal wines from steep vineyards in Wurttemberg, Germany. As fresh as it gets, this unfiltered blend of Riesling, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer will rush your palate with energy from its mouthwatering acidity and lifted citrus aromatics.
“Batterienerg” means “demolition hill,” a reference to the origins of the vineyard: in the 1840s, a Carl Augustus Immich (CAI) blasted a steep, solid cliff to create suitable land for vines. Today, Gernot Kollman creates this deeply terroir-driven Riesling at the historic vineyard: crisp, dry, and perfectly balanced.
Sometimes you want a sparkler with a little more fruit character in it. Enter this pet-nat from the Brand brothers (check out that color!). Predominantly Pinot Noir, this wine has all the traits of a Pinot- juicy red fruits like raspberry, watermelon, red cherry, and red plum. Goes with just about everything!
Look at that color! This charming rosé opens up with alluring notes of ripe raspberry, rose petal, and white pepper. On the palate, it is light and refreshing yet no simple porch pounder. Look for a certain degree of stony minerality and grip backing up its elegant Saint Laurent fruit. It may be a large bottle, but it empties quickly.
