Benanti Etna Rosso 2020

How insane do you have to be to plant your vines on the steep slopes just below the billowing lip of an active volcano? Ask Benanti. These pioneers of Sicilian wine are turning out some of the most stunning, classical Etna wines we’ve tried. Smoky, juicy, streaked with volcanic minerality. They’re explosive in the best ways possible.

This red wine made from Nerollo Mascalese is Sicily for the Sangiovese lover. It’s a dance of breathy tannin and juicy acidity shrouded in a smoky volcanic minerality, with notes of dried red fruits, tart cherry, and fresh flowers. This would play incredibly well with a tomato-y pasta sauce, something with that same savory and bright quality.
