Dedalus is privileged to exist in a world-class cheese-producing region and is proud to represent the farmers, cheese makers, and producers of the Green Mountain State. Placing our local selections alongside the best cheeses and wines in the world we offer a unique experience to our team providing education, tasting and mentorship every step of the way. Our mongers are ambassadors for the products we believe in and are encouraged to experience them.
OVERVIEW/THE ROLE
The Cheesemonger represents our producers and Dedalus’ commitment to celebrating good food. They care for, learn about, and most importantly sell our cheeses and market items. Our Market employees are goal-oriented individuals here to celebrate and move some world-class food.
THE PERSON
A Dedalus Cheesemonger is excited about our products. They are excited to learn and excited to share what they’ve learned with Dedalus’ customers and their colleagues. They are always looking for new ways to explore the culinary landscape and to discover new ways for our products to work with one another. They are flexible and love working as part of a team.
THE REQUIREMENTS
Basic knife proficiency
The ability to work on your feet for a prolonged period of time
A desire to explore food and wine
The ability to maintain a clean and food-safe work area
The ability to lift & carry 50 lbs
Proficiency with inventory & POS systems
Reliable transportation between Stowe and Burlington locations
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintaining a clean and organized work environment
Learning about and cultivating a knowledge of the basic styles of cheese and their representation in our selection
Knowing how to fulfill pre-orders and cheese boards
Proficiency with POS systems
Proficiency with portioning out cheese with a knife and wire
Giving engaging and knowledgeable customer service while remaining sales-driven
Remaining aware of goals and works creatively to achieve them
