Clos des Rocs Pouilly Loche Les Mures 2018

This insanely well-priced white Burg comes from the tiny village appellation of Pouilly-Loche. It’s been said before and we’ll say it again: if you want great value on Burgundy, look to small appellations that fly under the radar. Like this one. That said, we’d like to make a point to put vigneron Oliver Giroux on the map for anyone who hasn’t had the fortune of drinking his wines.

This bottle comes from the Les Mures vineyard that, if anyone had bothered to evaluate them almost 200 years ago, would surely have been labeled premier cru. Farmed organically, raised in neutral oak, this is a scintillating wine reverberating with aromas of fresh bread, orange oil, white flowers, and almond paste. It has a medium verging on full body with racy acidity and elegant, chalky minerality that make it an absolute rollercoaster ride between voluptuous peaks and glistening acidic turns.
