Due del Monte Friuli Colli Orientali Chardonnay 2019

Due del Monte is a young winery, but their wines have a soul and sense of place that feels much weightier. The project was started by two friends who fell in love with a tiny corner of the Collio region while on vacation. After a few years of collaborating with area winemakers, in 2018, they set up shop themselves. They bought a winery and a few hectares of old vines and got to work crafting minimal intervention, expressive wines.

This Chardonnay is expressive and bright. It’s not Burgundy, it’s not California, but it’s not trying to be. 100% Friuli with notes of tropical fruits, citrus, vanilla, ginger, and just a whiff of balsamic. It spends 10 months in neutral barrels for just a hint of oak and completes partial malolactic for balanced acidity. Don’t miss it.
