A pioneer of natural winemaking in the Beaujolais, Jean Foillard’s wines are among the most silky and seductive you’ll come across anywhere. As wine nerds have caught on to the immense value and pleasure that can be found in a bottle of Foillard, these gems are becoming harder and harder to come by. They are some of the most gulpable, hedonistic expressions of Gamay produced in France.
Working vines high atop Morgon’s Côte du Py, Foillard’s vines produce expressions of Gamay that are ethereal and elegant, with a hint of charming spice. With record heat and drought in 2015, this bottling benefited from that elevation, producing a wine of structure and strength, yet with an elegant minerality. Pair with roast chicken, burgers, or charcuterie.
