Les Enfants Sauvages Cotes Catalanes Rouge Che Chauvio 2021
Named after the Doors “Wild Child,” les Enfants Sauvages is the brainchild of Nikolaus and Carolin Bantlin. Originally from Germany, the duo settled in a tiny town in southern France and immediately began working organically and biodynamically with a small number of vines they found on the property. Their approach has always been minimal intervention. Now with nine hectares of mature vines cared for in part by their farm animals, they produce truly wild wines bursting with character.
This blend of 40% Cinsault, 40% Syrah, and 20% Mourvèdre is lighter in the glass, a transparent ruby tone with a lightness and laid back quality that would make it a prime option for appetizers or lighter fare. On the nose it’s bursting with ripe pomegranate and hibiscus and pink pepper at the finish. On the palate you’ll find that tart hibiscus tea and a hint of violet pastilles finished by a mineral and pepper.
