Benoit Cantin Irancy Rouge 2020

Look at that price, and consider that this wine comes from Burgundy.  We should just leave it at that. But we can’t, and won’t, because Benoit Cantin is too good a winemaker to reduce his insanely well-priced wines to a simple price tag. He’s one of about 50 winemakers working in Irancy, a tiny appellation in the north of Burgundy. Its soils are remarkably similar to Chablis, but only red grapes — Pinot Noir, primarily — are planted here.

This wine is the epitome of rustic elegance. It’s Burgundy through and through, with notes of sweet cherry, spice, rose, and a whiff of pepper. On the palate, it's streaked with blood orange, fresh-turned soil, and stony minerality. Earthy and classic, this bottle punches insanely far above its price point.
