Vincent Lacoste Bordeaux Rouge ‘Dompter la Bête’ - $15.99

STORY

Is there any better cold-weather red than a proper Bordeaux? We don’t think so. Another new producer to us, Vincent Lacoste has mastered what few others can claim–crafting the perfect, everyday Bordeaux rouge. No excess oak or extraction here, just pure Merlot-driven Bordeaux made the right way. Committed to accessible expressions of a wine so often excessively glamorized, Vincent’s wines represent the other side of Bordeaux–one that is affordable, approachable, and delicious without anything superfluous.

TASTING

This Merlot-Cabernet Franc blend shows the character of its principal varieties, with its tendency toward red fruits and an herbal streak. Notes of fresh rosemary, black pepper, and violet complement its supple yet fresh fruit profile. The wine’s tannins are noticeable yet silky, with ample acidity framing the tasting experience. Many forget that simple Bordeaux rouge used to be the go-to French wine for everyday drinking before the Beaujolais, Rhône, and Loire took over.

MORE

‘Dompter la Bête’ is the product of biodynamically-farmed Merlot & Cabernet Franc grapes that are fermented naturally, with stems retained for the supple texture they can lend the resulting wine. Unlike more pedigreed Bordeaux, Dompter is aged in neutral vessels so as to preserve freshness and purity of fruit. Join us in enjoying this lovely expression of Merlot–a grape variety that can be truly great in the right hands, both in the great, serious wines of the first growths of Bordeaux, and everyday farmer wines like this one.
