Barolo

You’ve got to get to know Barolo, the outgoing introvert of wine

Barolo is a wine of contrasts, kind of like that friend who is an outgoing homebody. You could say it clings to its roots, because ancient Nebbiolo just doesn’t do that well outside of Piedmont. But once those late-ripening grapes have been painstakingly coddled to maturity, and passed through the careful hands of a select few Barolo producers, they turn into something amazing: a wine that can’t be contained, that explodes with tannin and is supremely aromatic. One that begs to be paired with buttery truffle pasta and rich roasts of meat, or pretty much any other dish from classic Piedmont cuisine.
