March 8 marks International Women's Day. It's a time to celebrate women around the world. Their achievements and ambitions. Their spirit and drive. And there's a lot to celebrate! We can think of so many amazing women winemakers, sommeliers, creatives, and leaders making a big impact every day in the industry.
We also know that we have a long way to go. The gender gap in wine is real. Under 20% of winemakers are women. Wine collectors are predominantly men. Women sommeliers are paid less, promoted less, and judged by different standards. Sure, things are changing — but we're a long way off from a wine industry free of bias.
Our appreciation of women winemakers is a year round thing. In a lot of ways, it's easy — they make wines that are a joy to drink. Like every bottle in our shop, they’re made intentionally with minimal intervention. We love drinking these wines every day of the year and hope that as you get familiar with their names, you will too.
