Barcelo Ile de Beaute Rose 2023

Corsica’s Îl de Beauté appellation does a pretty good job of summing up its wines. Beautiful island juice that pulls no punches and is unabashedly proud of where it comes from. Which is a big deal when you think of how often Corsica has changed hands over the years. It’s no wonder that Corsicans feel strongly about their local culture, and local wines, and don’t mind trumpeting it from the rooftops with names like “island of beauty.”

Barcelo’s rendition is full of that island pride.  A blend of mostly native Nielluciu and Merlot, it’s well balanced and lingers on the palate in all the right ways.

Producer: Barcelo

Country: France

Region: Corsica

Variety: Nielluciu, Merlot

Red berries, island herbs

If you like this, you’ll probably like other rosés from island or coastal terroirs. Look to Provence, the Canary Islands in Spain, and parts of California for great examples of wines with maritime influences.

- Native varieties like Niellucco, Sciaccarellu, and Biancu Gentile were almost extinct on the island until a handful of winemakers brought them back.
- Corsica has been the prize of various tussles between France and Italy, but maintains a fiercely independent identity.

Pair Your Club Wine With...

We think you should pair your Corsican rosé with a dish that captures the vibrancy of summer in the south of France. We love this classic stuffed eggplant recipe—you can use canned tomatoes, but it's a hit with fresh summer tomatoes too.
