Meet Presqu'ile: Raising the New California

LIVE - VIRTUAL

WEDNESDAY - APRIL 14TH

6PM EST

The "new California" describes a winemaking style that challenges long-held assumptions about West Coast wine. For decades, we've been taught that California produces bold, extracted, intensely flavored and textured wines. But, a new school has emerged: producing less polarizing wines that are light, juicy, complex, and aim to express a sense of place. This is New World wine for Old World drinkers. And, for Burgundy lovers like us, Presqu'ile makes it totally worth exploring.

When we want to drink great California wine, we turn to the Murphy family. Farming for almost a century, this family has an intrinsic love of the land. So, when the time came for them to start a winery, it was always going to be about finding the best site. They searched up and down the West Coast and landed in Santa Maria Valley. The result? Stunning Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Santa Maria Valley is located in Santa Barbara County, along the Central Coast. It opens to the Pacific Ocean. Dreamy fog from the oceanside drapes over the vineyards and creates a unique microclimate in this little pocket of California. When you combine California sun with the cooling effect of the Pacific Ocean magic happens. With their attention to detail, obsession with terroir, and this special microclimate, Presqu'ile produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that'll change your mind about California.

Matt Murphy is outgoing, thoughtful, and passionate. He's a good friend of ours, and he's a whole lot of fun to drink wine with. During this virtual class, you’ll have the opportunity to meet and hang with Matt. Join us to hear his family's story, learn why so many of us obsess over Santa Barbara, and taste through a flight of his wines, including a Pinot Noir from his prized Presqu'ile Vineyard. This is an incredibly unique opportunity to connect with a tastemaker at the vanguard of the "new California."

This bundle includes admission to the class and 5-oz pours of the following wines from Presqu'ile:

  1. Presqu'ile Santa Maria Chardonnay 2018

The Rebel Girls of Beaujolais

LIVE - VIRTUAL

TUESDAY - APRIL 27TH

6PM EST

Kathleen Hanna of the feminist punk rock band, Bikini Kill, started a revolution in the 1990s by yelling, "Girls to the front" at their shows, believing it was important for girls to see other girls' art. Girls seeing girls doing what they love helps to inspire those who think they can't, raising a generation of strong, confident Rebel Girls.

Beaujolais is for rebels, for passionate iconoclasts. Like the artists of the underground punk scene, the winemakers of this small, often underestimated French region have rejected expectations and championed the underdog. Beaujolais has produced some of the most revolutionary thinkers in natural wine, and the work of these men and women has energized a movement.

Join our Director of Education, Brittany Galbraith, and Kermit Lynch National Sales Manager, Lisa Strausser-- who up until recently was the only female National Sales Manager for the company-- for a class dedicated to a group of Rebel Girls who are keeping the riot spirit of Beaujolais alive. You'll learn about the work of: Nicole Chanrion, the "boss of the Côte" and the OG revolutionary who changed the culture in the 1980s as one of the first women vignerons in Beaujolais; Michele Smith-Chapel, New York sommelier-turned-winemaker who farms underdog Cru vineyards by hand; and, Anne-Sophie Dubois, a Champagne-born, Burgundy-trained winemaker who is shifting perspectives on how wine is made in Beaujolais.

Grab your best (Rebel) friend and tune-in as we explore the region through the lens of these three inspiring women winemakers. This class is all about girls amplifying the voices and stories of other girls doing revolutionary stuff. Girls to the front!

Rebel girl, rebel, girl. Rebel girl, you are the queen of (our) world. Rebel girl, rebel girl. / That girl thinks she's the queen of the neighborhood. I got news for you. She is! -Bikini Kill

This bundle includes admission to the class and 5-oz pours of the following wines:

  1. Anne-Sophie Dubois Fleurie L'Alchimiste 2019
  2. Chapel Chiroubles 2018
  3. Nicole Chanrion Côte de Brouilly 2019

Bundles are only available for pick-up - Tuesday, April 27th after 11am. Please use the 'note' in your shopping cart to indicate Burlington or Stowe pickup.
